Brian Villa

Brian Villa (he/him/his) currently works as a research project director for Dr. Emily Ozer's lab group at UC Berkeley. He supports a research project that examines how youth voice and youth participatory action research (YPAR) projects inform and impact school district decision-making processes. Prior to joining Dr. Ozer's lab, he taught Asian American studies at Balboa High School in San Francisco through the Pinoy/Pinay Educational Partnerships (PEP). He also worked as the community health manager at the RYSE Youth Center in Richmond, California. He has over eight years of experience assisting young people conduct YPAR projects on various community health topics including mental health and coping, trauma and violence, gender justice, and the impacts of COVID-19. Brian received his Master of Public Health and Master of Social Welfare from UC Berkeley. His interests include youth leadership, mental health, anti-racist and decolonizing methodologies, and healing-centered/liberatory practices.
