Speaker Bio
Matt Englar-Carlson, Ph.D., is a professor of counseling and the director of the Center for Boys and Men at California State University-Fullerton. A Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Dr. Englar-Carlson’s scholarship focuses on training helping professionals to work more effectively with boys and men across the full range of human diversity. He is the co-developer of the of Positive Psychology Positive Masculinities model that examines a prosocial and strength-based approach of understanding men. His books include In the Room With Men: A Casebook of Therapeutic Change, Counseling Troubled Boys: A Guidebook for Professionals, A Counselor’s Guide to Working With Men, and he co-authored the APA Guidelines for Professional Psychological Practice with Boys and Men. As a clinician, he has worked children, adults, and families in school, community, and university mental health settings. He is a veteran teacher at Esalen Institute where he leads annual experiential workshops for men.Return to the 2020 Speakers Page >
